Practice 03
Creative direction is the practice of keeping a brand recognisable while it grows. We set the visual and verbal system, art-direct the work that matters most, and review the work we did not produce — because the thing that erodes a brand is rarely the flagship film. It is the four hundred pieces made in a hurry by people who were never briefed properly.
You have a guidelines document nobody opens, three agencies producing work that does not look related, and an in-house team who would hold a higher standard if someone would define it. Or you have grown into new formats — retail, packaging, film — that the original identity never anticipated.
02Who leads it
Marguerite Okonjo-Vale
Founder and Executive Creative Director
Marguerite started Lumaire in 2014 after eleven years art-directing for publishers and cultural institutions, on the theory that most brand problems are editorial problems wearing a different coat. She leads the studio’s creative standard, chairs the quarterly review of every piece of work leaving the building, and still personally art-directs two projects a year.
Sena Ilhan
Creative Director
Sena leads brand and campaign creative across the studio’s consumer work. She came to Lumaire from packaging and retail design, which shows in her insistence that an idea has to survive being printed small, badly, on the wrong stock, in a shop nobody chose the lighting for.

Engagements start at £9,500 per month and run minimum six months. The first conversation costs nothing and often narrows the brief before there is a proposal to argue about.
